My name is Alexandra, and I am a professional piano tutor and music composer based in Edinburgh, holding a Music Conservatoire degree.
With 35 years of academic experience and 15 years of professional teaching experience, I provide high-quality piano tuition to students of all ages and abilities. I am committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism while supporting aspiring young musicians, adult beginners, and students returning to the piano after a break.
Children can begin lessons once they have developed basic reading skills, and I warmly welcome adult learners at every stage of their musical journey.
Lessons are available in one-hour, 45-minute, or 30-minute sessions, depending on the student’s age, level, and individual learning needs.
I currently prepare students for ABRSM, Trinity College, and Rockschool examinations, while also offering more flexible tuition for those wishing to explore a variety of musical styles, including classical, contemporary, jazz, rock, pop, and folk music.
My teaching approach is calm, patient, and encouraging, ensuring that students not only make consistent progress but also genuinely enjoy the learning process. Musical education has been shown to support memory, cognitive development, concentration, creativity, and expressive ability, particularly in young learners.
Alongside teaching, I am also the author of Whispers of Nature, a published collection of six original piano compositions available through universities, music shops, libraries, and Amazon.
Practice
Students are expected to practice regularly during the week, and parental involvement in home practice is important. Parents of primary school-aged students should plan to sit with their child as they play at least once a week, even for a few minutes. Older students should be encouraged to make practice a part of their routine. Each week, there will be a detailed list of practice tasks and theory exercises to be completed for the next lesson. Parents should check this to ensure that the work is being completed.
